The 23 caissons for the construction of the energy island are produced at our fabrication yard at North Sea Port. After passing through five workstations, the finished caissons are transported to a load-out area by a submersible barge, floated and stored along a quay wall awaiting towage to the offshore location.
How will the energy island be built?
The caissons will form the outer walls of the energy island. The island itself will be created using approximately 2.3 million square metres of sand, extracted locally. The island will be finished in late 2026, when the electrical equipment can start to be installed. Contracts for this will be tendered this year.
